🏛️ Origins and Naming



  • The pub is named after Sir Hugh Myddelton, the Welsh engineer and entrepreneur behind the New River Project (opened in 1613), (He features throughout our website) which brought fresh water from Hertfordshire to London — a transformative feat for the city’s growth.
  • The pub at 52 Canonbury Road, Islington (N1 2HS) has traded since the 1830s, making it one of Canonbury’s long‑standing establishments
